Federal Reserve Policy
Dr. Peter Ireland’s areas of research interest are macroeconomics and monetary economics, both nationally and worldwide, with special emphasis on Federal Reserve policy and its effects on financial markets and the economy. Widely published in financial and economic journals, Dr. Ireland is a Research Associate with the National Bureau of Economic Research, a member of the Shadow Open Market Committee (a group of private-sector economists who monitor the actions of the Federal Reserve), and a frequent contributor to the Manhattan Institute’s Economics21 website. Widely published, Dr. Ireland’s recent research includes: "Interest Rates and Money in the Measurement of Monetary Policy (Journal of Business and Economic Statistics), “The Macroeconomic Effects of Interest on Reserves” (Macroeconomic Dynamics); “Stochastic Growth in the United States and Euro Area” (Journal of the European Economic Association, 2013); “A New Keynesian Perspective on the Great Recession,” (Journal of Money, Credit, and Banking, 2011); and “On the Welfare Cost of Inflation and the Recent Behavior of Money Demand” (American Economic Review).
